“Let’s get back to talking about music”

Sometimes starting from the beginning is exactly what is needed to begin again. Similar to remembering who you are or why you do things, it may require you to revisit the past. Not saying, everything must return to the old you, but there are some things we may have forgotten along the way.

Tyler the Creators interview with Narward has been circling social media lately. Stating,  “If I was gossiping or talking who got beef. . . people would feed into that. No, we need to get back to talking about music.” Tyler gets it. Like a time when MTV (Music Television) actually played music, we music fans all crave it. I have always known him to have great beats and his lyrics can be a bit eccentric, but his views on music is incredible. He candidly speaks about his appreciation for music and in doing so, inspires. With his 8th studio album, CHROMAKOPIA, set to release Monday, October 28th, let’s dive into some of the things he talks about in the interview and what we can look forward to.

First, “lets get back to talking about music.” I feel I have begged for this for a long time now. And find it hard to even have meaningful conversations regarding the art form. There are so many blurred lines of gossip, clout and numbers, we seem to have lost what we do it for. J. Cole recently addressed this issue in Port Antonio. “Tappin' back into your magic pen is what's imperative. Remindin' these folks why we do it. . . It's for speakin' our thoughts, pushin' ourselves. . . reaching your minds.” This may only be the surface to getting back to the craft. But even our passionate musicians are a screaming for a change.

Once upon a time, not long ago, new music was released on Tuesdays.  The new release day went into effect July 10, 2015. Altering the way we receive music forever. “I think we should put music out again on Tuesday’s,” says Tyler. In doing so, this would allow people the chance to digest the music properly. Like, on there commutes to work argues Tyler, The Creator. He is pushing that agenda with the release of his new album, CHROMAKOPIA. Snoop and Dr. Dre took to the Stephen A. Smith show to express their cry for bringing back musicianship. “Be original,” says Snoop. “Find your ear for who you are.” And Dr. Dre believes the lane for the next best real musician is wide open. “There’s somebody in somebodies’ garage that’s going to be the next Snoop and Dre.” I do hope so because we are losing sight of the power of music. There needs to be more of an effort for a full body of work and less radio hits. Here today and gone tomorrow type of music. More respect for the craft. Here is my cry to go back to the basics. Start from the roots so we can begin again.
